the guireans haven't recorded any new songs since 1992.
i wonder what songs post-1992 they may have paid ' tribute ' to.
' pairc life ' certainly, ' if you tolerate fish ( then your children will be from ness ) ' ? hmmmm, maybe not.

any ideas ?
you never know, you may end up with a credit on the next guireans album.
either that or we'll laugh and point at you and shout haw!

How about that Pulp song in tribute to the curam, 'Communion People'?

Or a tribute to Charlie Morrisons 'chandlers' shop 'Smells Like White Spirit'

Or even Blurs ode to Plasterfield 'Council House'

And not forgetting Metallicas 'Enter Sandwick'

Oasis would have to be done (again, Billy) and I don't mean the Eagles-fixated Parkend Medallion men - although there are all sorts of possibilities for confusing the 2 of them.

-  4-Crown Supernova?
- Woodbines and Flukanol? Except it's flukanide. S***!
- WonderColl

As regards Pulp, maybe "Common Grazing" instead of "Communion People" - although the lyrical possibilities with "Communion People" are probably better...

Afroman, Cuz I Got High has so much potential, how about as a tribute to Roddy Rev, Cuz I Got The Curam (Bogie Remix)

I was gonna get pissed in the Crown, but I got the Curam
I was gonna smash some windows down town, but I got the Curam
I went right off AC/DC, and i know why.
I got the Curam, I got the Curam, I got the Curam.

Allah is great....oh shit blew my cover!!

What about a tribute to that minxtress of pop, Kylie, and 'Can't Get You Out Of My (Loom)Shed'. And didn't someone mention 80's stars Durnan Drunin? What about 'A View To A Hill'
Going back a bit to early 80's Germanic synth trio, Trio, how about (Diggum) Da Da Da, or have you'se already done that one?

A Guireans sinaglong footie song is overdue, how about Fat Les doing Marag Dubh (Scuse the spelling).

Public Enemy - Don't Believe The Gazzette
Ramones - Shonnie Is A Peatcutter (has this already been done?)

Twas it not Cyclefoot what wrote Yachie Was A Soldier (or something) I used to have a recording of that. Or was it Yachie was a Sailor. Or was this all in a previous life.

hey man

me and murdo angus think that ' marag dubh ' is definitely the best suggestion yet.
perhaps the Aths or Tong FC could record it with the Guireans.

then again why not do ' Three Lionels '

Maybe this one's a bit obvious, but what about Bronski Beat's homage to the taraisgear, 'Cut that perfect peat, boy'?

Aha! Townie - You have obviously not yet visited our extensive Tapeography. Once you open it up, there's a sub-page for each great Guireans opus, and if you visit the page for "Late Period EPs and Singles" (or something like that) you will find that that very song by the wizened wee weejie cove was on the "Cac Mix II" EP.

Cac Mix II was the one on which the Guireans got hold of a Casio keyboard
but couldn't figure out how to select any rhythms except "Euro Disco 2". They were
thus forced to cover only chart hits of the 80s and early 90s.

There's even an associated MP3 snippet to download for your listening "pleasure" which can be accessed via the same page.

How about Robbie Williams - "Let Me Craig Dunain You", segueing(?) into the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Ferry"  (which it's a rip off of, I think).

For an ultra-up-to-date cover, what about Wheatus' 'Love is a Mutt from Dell'? or Radiohead's 'Fake Plastic Dungarees'?
or Blondie's ode to her village of origin, 'Coll Me'?

Back further still, what about 'Everybody Needs Some Toddy', or James Brown's serenade to the woolly ruminant, 'Get Tup (I Feel Like A) Sex Machine'?

Maybe we could take a leaf out of U2's book, with their obviously Wee Free-influenced All That You Can't Take With You When You Die...  Maybe Excommunication?  Or, more obviously, Waulk On?

How about some seasonal (?!) choons from that cholly old wag Nick Cove? Perhaps obvious favourites such as The Sheep Song, The Barny, a whole compilation of Murdo Ballads? As for his recent effort God is in the House, well he's there ahead of us on that one.....

Merry Crimbo to all ye Guireans and Guirean Associates!!!!

Tonalda (not feeling gothy at all, ho no)

On the subject of Nick Cove, what about going back beyond the Bad Peats, to his early work with the Birthday Ceard-y?

We could do "Big Rev Angus Smith Drarshcan" from their famous "Junk-ceard (boyo)" LP.

Or "Ramlet Cow cow cow"...
