Wee fellow was moaning that I hadn't been
contributing enough to the Guireans website
message board so I thought I'd let you all
know about the recent Nicolson Institute
"Class of '80" reunion held at the Caber. A
photo should be in the Gazette shortly. I
think I might be hidden behind Ian Don,
though, (together with about 3 or 4 other
people). Over 130 turned up and it was a
very enjoyable event. There were, however,
two scary moments. Firstly was when I found
out that there were at least 3 grannies in
our year. Secondly was when the camp John
Scobie showed up and complimented me on my
appearance (I was wearing a kilt, and not as
my wee brother would have you think, a
Village People constuction worker outfit
!). I probably shouldn't have been that
flattered, though, as I found out later that
Scobie had also been telling people he
really liked Gordon "Errol White"'s baldy
haircut "as this was like David Beckham".
Scobie, of course, famously used to dress up
in Chirsty Alone's clothes and high heels
when he was a boy, and not just for
halloween. During my visit to Lewis for the
reunion, Donny Petrie recounted an occasion
when Scobie was parading around in his
mother's gear that his drunken sailor uncle,
Tami Bou (did anybody ever see him sober ?)
was yelling "Fruit, the boy is fruit !".
Chirsty herself was asking Callan Bou if he
thought Scobie "was mental ?". On another
occasion, in Primary 2, Scobie and class
tomboy, Dol*na G*bb*ns (Pl*st*rfi*ld)
decided they liked each other's clothes and
promptly changed during the dinner break.
Scobie returned to class wearing her skirt
and tights and she, his trousers. I guess
the signs were there for all to read a long
time ago.

This is exactly the type of quality
reminiscing that should appear in the Eilean
an Fraoich annual instead of the usual
"between the wars we were so poor that we
had to walk every day from Carloway to Murdo
Dougie the Pluff's shop in Stornoway to
buy a potato" nonsense they normally print.

The Guireans Website and its management take
no resposibility for the content of items
posted on the website's message board.
Especially those which may be used as
evidence in legal action by parties named
therein and even more especially when posted
by Ken "What Libel Action?" Livingstone.

Quite right. The notion that this site can
be used to tell stories about certain
individuals' s*x**l*ty is outrageous. And
whether or not someone who has displayed
h*m*s*x**l or tr*nsv*st*te tendencies bears
any resemblance to either John Scobie or
J*** S***** is neither here nor there. So,
screw you guys.

So what you're trying to say is that J*hn
Sc*bie is a shirt lifter, is that right?

hu**h c*ves
i don't know why the management of this site
are getting so agitated about naming some
local worthies and giving details of their predilictions.
i for one am entirely comfortable in
proclaiming that J**n S****e is a
h***s*x***, C*******h G**h smelled and that
B***e indeed went to B********e shamelessly
and without the need for censorship.
m**p**s l***e ( you ain't seen me )

And talking of Class Reunions, (which we
were last April) our Class of 81 assembled
at the Cabar on Friday night to meet old
mates and hide from people with outstanding
grudges.
On a musical note, two stalwarts of ealry
80's Stornoway bands, namely Alec John
Kennedy and David Heaton, both off Swedish
TV fame, were seen in deep discussion , which
leads me to believe that a new album can
only be months away. No sign of Johnny
Pluckan (not even in the dance band (which
was Tosh and Alec Murdo) and who were
fantastic as usual) and no sign of CJ who
was busy snuffing out some rival Chicago
gang .
Spookily, most of the coves looked ancient
whist the blones still had a youthful sheen
about them (which of course could just have
been layers and layers of make-up.
Looking forward to hearing all your reunion
stories over the next 10 years.
