Dear Guireans,

'Tis the season to be jolly, and make lots and lots of lolly !  Yes its Guireans manager, accountant, publisher, record company owner etc, Ken 'New Money for Old Rope' Livingstone here again with another great money-making idea.  Statistics show that more people buy records at Xmas time than at any other time of the year.  Often, it is an annual venture into a record store and they ignorantly part with their hard-earned readies on the most bizarre of nonsense, the Xmas single !

Not wanting to miss out on such an opportunity, I propose that the Guireans sell out whatever artisitic principles they might possibly have left and release such a record, if nothing else to keep that awful Ozzy / Kelly Osbourne wailing from the top spot !  With a bit of luck, I'll make enough money to buy a new Ferrari Enzo and the band might have enough left for a carry out at New Year from Cathy Yaowlt's (sp).

Our back catalogue, I seem to recall, includes a dodgy version of 'Do they know its Xmas ?' but I'm looking for some fresh ideas this year to receive the Guireans treatment.  At the moment the front runner is a version of Slade's enduring Xmas classic, 'So here it is, Marybank Xmas'.  It is in fact's Slade's record but with 'Marybank' dubbed (actually shouted) over the word 'Merry'.  (The best ideas are often the simplest ones).  A current outsider is a reworking of Mud's 'It'll be Lonely this Xmas'.  This would be 'It'll be Laxay this Xmas', a sad song about someone who woun't be going anywhere exotic this festive season (unlike myself !).

So, Guireans fans, if you've any good ideas for alternative Xmas singles, get them in fast.  There's not many shopping days left to go.  Have a happy Xmas and a prosperous New Year (before my percentage).  Ho Ho Ho !

Ken

Sadly we'll be too busy "Cash"ing in on this year's deceased pop stars to do another Xmas single. The Plasterfield Advertiser reports that there are plans to record an AGOFR supergroup tribute EP this Xmas, to commemorate the passing of J*hnny C*sh, R*bert "Accountant of Rock" Palmer and B*rry "The Spitting Image of Jimmy Petrie's old Dog Mirk" M*nilow.

(It's actually B*rry Wh*te who's dead, not B*rry Manil*w, but we don't know any of his songs).

This follows last year's "highly successful" Clash/Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute EP by Bod Strummer and the Dun Guireaneros Pronounced Roddy Huggan.

Suggestions are welcome for  :
  • the name of the proposed supergroup
  • the name of the EP
  • J*hnny C*sh or R*bert P*lmer song titles

SHOCK HORROR - GUIREANS EDGED FROM XMAS NUMBER
ONE SPOT BY MICHAEL ANDREWS !  I use the term 'edged' in its widest possible sense as the Guireans rehashed 'Don't they know its Xmas' single was also 'edged' out by The Darkness (No. 2), Ozzy, Cliff Richard and everybody else in the top 100, to be more precise.  Ah well, there's always next year.   By then, I predict, no one will remember Michael Andrews.

Merry Xmas all you Guireans fans.

Ken 'Ritchie Blackmore' Livingstone.
