Gators In Space
Band:
Memphis Louie &
The Rockin' Firebird Of Death
Genre: Alternative
Rock (Psychedelic)
Different
The intro was different....
Guitars are loud in the mix compared to the vocals. Vocals are very
choppy.
Mood is happy. Sounds like it could be on a flinstones sound track.
Sounds like 70's rock.
Band is tight. Keep working at it!

authentic
pychedelic 60's pop
Upbeat verse. I like the 2nd guitar part that kicks in the 2nd verse.
This is kind of trippy in a 60's pschedelic rock vibe. It reminds me of
something off the Nuggets 2 box set from the British bands. The vocals
have a distinct mix, i imagine it's intentional. It sounds really bad at
first, but then it makes sense as the song progresses. It also reminded
me of "tapioca Tundra" by the monkees. Cool stuff.

IsThis
The 13th Floor?
Yes, honestly it sounds a lot like Roky Erikson and the 13th Floor
Elevators, Kings of Texas psychedelic rock! And since the band asked
we'll make comparisons to the Jefferson Airplane as well.
Honestly this is just simply one of the best things I've heard on
GB. Production is dead on and all the players are represented
appropriately in the mix.
The mood is phucked up and we like that! All the jangly quitar
things and the driving downbeat courted by vocals (and spooky woah woah
woahs) that create mass hysteria bring this into a downward spiral that,
in the end, lift it high above anything I've heard in awhile.
Has Roky come back from the musically dead?

Charlie
Horse
The vocalist is flipping out like a muscle spasm. I like the chorus
with deep vocals. Guitar, drums are high energy. Good mix, freaky mood
that does not lend itself easily to comparison so I can't say who you
sound like. It's jammin' to be original.

green
day meets joy division
good punky sound on the intro like the bass, vocals are alittle
quite,i think ive reviewed this before,im not sure though,if so this is
the 2nd time this has happened today.
music has a mix between joy division and green day, vocals are a bit
quite so i cant say too much about them, mood isnt really doing much, mix
is ok just maybe a bit more vocals in there would just complete this
track perfectly.high marks from me

punk
rock
two chords, anger, well there's energy enough to build a couple of
power plants. as to the arrangement it's not that revolutionary, but i
guess it isnt meant to be.. sounds a bit mc-5 and the stooges, and early
punk.. the mix a bit muddy, vocals especially- too much reverb to my
liking prhaps - not up there, but ok stuff..

HELLO
EARTH??
Is anybody there? I hope this is some guy with his guitar and a
laptop hiding from his wife and kids in the basement the mix flopped
around like six feet of mud in a tin room. it sounded bad but it did put
me in the "take a little toot" mood.

Too
much 80's
Strange loose intro and outro. Don't think it works. Nice bass, tries
to keep the song together. Drums are very loose and noisy. Guitars use
and abuse flanger effect. It gets a bit annoying. The voice is way too
much behind the rest of the sound and is really not my style. I believe
it sounds more like a 80's metal band like Iron Maiden than really
Alternative. Production could be better. There's too much treble in
there which doesn't help the bottom end.

Cult
Influence
I'm hearing a Cult influence here. Here's a group that could benefit
from a higher quality recording and either real drums or a better drum
machine/programming. Production ideas are solid, if you can afford
better recording (I know, money doesn't grow on trees so easier said
than done) it would benefit you. The material is there. Good luck.

wailing
some wailing lead guitar starts this number off, then a kinda retro
feel love the bass line, really clear and a great tone.
vocals are sort of 80s sounding.
this is the 2nd one that is kinda like joy division especially the
vocals, mix is good mood is ok but nothing really too much to the mood.
- ashaxx from
Stourbridge, Non Usa, United Kingdom on 23Nov2004
Big
Jangly Kick-Ass Noise
Crappy recording masks most of what's going on which sounds pretty
damn good.
There's a singer back there right? Is he doing a Robert Plant
thing? Who could hear, he's mixed WAY, WAY too far back.
It's too bad because you guys rock. Bring the vocal up, try to get
some better separation for the instruments in your mix so you can reduce
the grungy noise factor which makes this sound like a mess, although a
really badass mess.
- glennsc from
Los Angeles, California on 23Nov2004
turn
off (or down) the voice processor
Very nice bass line and the vocals were very good... EXCEPT for that
damn voice processing. Vocals are good enough that it should not need
all that processing.
I'd also loose the reverb or hall effect on the guitar.
I think the song would have a much better sound without the effects
and a bit better record/mix quality.

Review
I dont really like this style of music the vocals are alright the
mood of the song makes me want to go surfing.

Backseat
Vocals
I would like to be able to hear the vocals more. The sound is
alright, but the progression is pretty standard. Fairly upbeat song,
solo isn't really a solo. Has potential, but the low mix vocals are
making me upset.
- cb2 from

hmmm
KInda a cross of ozzy and some rockbilly act that perform on the
street where i live. The mix is good i can tell this was done with greta
care
- JimGF from

Mediocre
The mix has nice variety. The mood is a 70's roller disco and you
sound like some classic rock hit.
- ksfinlmel from

Pretty
good
I really like this, the mix is perfect. I love it. I can't quite put
my finger on who you sound like.

intro
The intro has a cool jazzy abstract feeling to it. The vocals have a
cool reverb on them but it is too much. I have no clue what he is
saying. The production needs some more bottom to it. Everything is
pretty solid. The guitar lines could be a little more interesting. Good
energy though.

Gators In Space!
My mate Isenho already sent me 'a check out this track' pm and i've
already added it to my playlist...
Its pretty damn cool with its unabashashed thrashy, trashy psych-punk
exhuberance and reminds me of 'Silver Machine' by Hawkwind(which i
love)in its loveable dumbness..
Silver Machine as played by The Stooges with a weird Llame suited
Cabaret crooner on top tho...Giving the supper club audience the fright
of their lives!
The mood is EXCITEMENT..The mix is a wonderful mess and you sound
like yourselves..
BRILLIANT picture on the song page too btw..

forward
bound
it's jane's addiction on a mexican radio. I think I like it, I just
wish the vocals were up a bit so I could hear what it's all about. I
think I hear the B-52s in there or REM, but we gotta turn them vocals
up.

an
80's vibe
To be honest my first impression at the beginning of the song was :
the drums sound awful. After second thought, they're not that bad but
still of poorer quality than the rest of the instruments. My advice on
the mix : better use the pan. Snare drum on the left side, ride cymbal
on the right one, will start give a bigger and wider feel to the drums.
Also, I think the bass should remain in the center, with the bass drum.
The effect on the voice gives the impression you were inspired by Mick
Jagger and that the song dates back to the 80's. But still it has a
modern touch and it rocks, which is essential. The deep choir background
vocals at 2'20 are weird but original.
- boolfight from

Too
much phasing...
I just listened to a song with much better production, so this might
not be a fair reveiw. The drumming, escpecially the cymbol crashes don't
across very well in the mix, and I think the vocals have too much
reverb. I think it's a bit effects laden throughout. The guitar playing
and arranging are very well thought out. {Coffee Break, gotta get it
while it's hot} The instrumental sections are the highlights of this
track, but still have too much phasing going on in the effects category.
I'd definetly like to mix it myself, because the energy of the song
comes through the quality of mp3/production problems. The intro might be
extended for my tastes, but segues nicely into the kick start of the
song. I think the sound is similar to Iggy and the Stooges "Fun House"
era, but when the heavy reverbed/phased guitars make it sound like the
Cult.

Onions
& Bananas
There's some great energy oozing outta this track. Nice one! It
reminds me a bit of The Chills jamming with Screaming Jay Hawkins with a
bit of The Cult thrown in for good measure. I love the live vibe... is
this recorded live or just recorded really simply? Either way it is most
cool.
I'm not sure why you're asking for comments on the mix... most
people will probably tell you it sucks arse, but I don't care because
the song and the performance both have real life and energy... something
that's sadly lacking from a lot of tracks here at GB.
Great stuff guys. 5 stars for sheer nuts and passion.
- isenho from
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 18Nov2004
Hssss.....
Production is over-compressed. The digital hiss is really apparent
on the track. Otherwise the mix sounds good. Sounds like old 54-40
with a different singer. Has the mood of a mid-80s alternative rock
tune.

New
EFX box?
I don't know if this a good thing or not, but I've never heard
anything quite like this before, and mostly because of the tone of the
vox. They're processed beyond any sort of comprehension, I have no idea
what the lyrics might be or what this is about! Y'all play tight enough,
the bass might be overly loud, but damn! All the flanging and
reverb...I don't mean to be snotty, but did you just get a kick ass
plug-in or outboard EFX box and maybe use the crap out of it?? I have no
idea how to compare this to anything and I'm afraid this will be the
least helpful review ever, but..not at all my bag. Let the vocals come
forward at least a little and kill some of the production...there might
be a song under there, but damn, I can't tell.

Elvis
is back!
This is almost like the punk Elvis. The retro-kick mood doesn't take
away from its freshness however. The vocals are confident and delivered
so and the scream of the guitars make me think of an aggressive U2. The
point is nailed home and succeeds. Mix is good - not great.

Sounds
cool
The intro is nice vocals are cool and the production is good. I like
the base lines and little guitar riffs all through the song. Over all
good work.
- stevepsycho from

nice
idea, but
Mix needs to be fixed. Vocals are burried behind and reverb makes it
worse. Nice guitar work, energetic song but I would suggest fixing the
mix to make it even better.

Raw
and Righteous
Rough recording, but the song itself rocks like gangbusters. The
singer has a few effects thrown on, giving him a mid-90's REM sound. I
can't make out most of the lyrics, but I would listen to it over and
over again. Sorta psychedelic punk pop, early Cult goin' through the
Paisley Underground.
- dmdstrhalo from
Watkinsville, Georgia on 17Nov2004
Great
Work!
I Love this right out of the gate! love the over the top reverb!
reminds me of early 80's REM! A sound I wish I could do sometimes. The
vocals especially remind me of Life's Rich Pageant era- REM. The mix
too. I am totally diggin this. would love to see it live! Nice work!

regular
A somewhat tedious up-beat rocking track with a nineties sound all
over, from the vocals to the guitar-sound and drum-sound. Not excactly
my cup of tea, not that I donīt drink tea...but I like when thereīs a
little sugar in it or when itīs hot as hell, and this really does not
have that. What is the lead guitar doing in the verse besides
interfering with lead-vocals, which by the way are good and decent?-I
really should like this since it reminds of the early pearl jam, live
and blind melon...but itīs like thereīs no personal sound, drama,
gimmicks..anything extra to grab my attention, Iīm sorry..but best of
luck to you in meeting and audience that has been waiting for a sound
like this in say 12 years?
A nice production, too much room though..the guitars and vocals
somehow ring into each others spheres..a bit annoying actually, besides
that a good job done in giving sound to it all and finding a somewhat
whole sound!

I
Saw Elvis in San Francisco!
Interesting intro. I love the effects on the vocals, and I love the
effects on the guitars, and I somewhat like the effects on the bass and
drums, but altogether... I thought I was high and being flushed down a
toilet of love!
The mood is pot, heroine, mushroom, speed, and downers.
You sound like Elvis in a 60's, San Francisco based band.

driving
on down
hi-hats are a little distorted at the beginning, pushing the mix to
the max... a little to much on the reverb on the vox. driving song.
guitar parts good.
sounds like a 60s brit band.

pretty
cool
very early Joy division sound, from the music to the singing. I liked
it, pretty original sounding. It sounded like you were having a good
time playing it. I'd give it a B.

rockin
nice tune, great 80s feel. its a little hard to understand the vocals
its a little muddled by the effects. everything seems to be very
trebbley.

Sounds
like Jesus And Mary Chain with The Cul..
And also a bit like the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but then they
sound like JAMC too, sort of.
I like how energetic you guys are.
The guitars and drums and bass all crashing into each other nicely.
This is a noisy assault I don't mind.
- blue_nippon from
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 15Nov2004
Great!
You sound like like The Stooges and The New York Dolls mixed 50/50.
And itīs good Iīm digginīit.
If you just turn up the vocals a bit I buy your record for full
price.

Having
problems hearing
Im sorry I have a hard time desiphering the vocals at all, a little
too much effects on everything, maybe try tonign it down a bit, you
guys soulnd like you would be better with a more raw sound.

not
bad
nice intro, jumpoing beat, and the riff of the bass makes the song
catchy. mix could be improved, i dont know who u sound like as this is
normally my kinda music. but theres too much reverb on the singing.
apart from that its not bad.
- theunleaded from

total
cult
Billy Duffy opens it up... ian jumps in... dont let anyone tell you
there are too many effects... they work great here... sounds like a live
performance from the "Love" era... Androgenous singer with all the
mystique of good 80's rock! you guys have definitely captured someting
with this recording. great job

why
am i scared?
hmm .. song starts off sounding like a band getting warmed up in the
practice room, but then you all kind of kick into gear at the same time.
rather neat. the vocal recording quality or something about the vocals
altogether reminds me of some psychobilly bands i liek .. but that you
probably haven't heard of ... the whole song is kind of distantly
recorded .. but i can't decide if that's the purpose or not. The mood is
kind of ... psycho deliverence rock to me or something ... idunno ..
for some reason this song creeps me out. idunno... i mean, not
instrumentally wise at all .. but MOOD wise, it gives me a primus
feeling .. don't ask why .. but as far as specific sound, i can't place
anyone
