I'm A Reject [play]
Band: Memphis Louie & The Rockin' Firebird Of Death
Genre: Alternative Rock (Garage)

I like...
Very nice arrangement. Guitars are awesome, as well as bass. Emotional vocals that fit perfectly with the music. No complaints about this one. I look forward to hearing more of your stuff. Good job everyone!

lo fi rock
Not a bad song, really, if you like lo-fi, "garage" sound and melodies a la "Velvet Underground". The programmed drums sound fake but they suit the lo-fi style of the song nicely. The same thing about vocals and production - they`re not produced well but you can take it as the premeditated element of the artist`s style.

this song could be...
very good... very catchy.... however I can;t really make out the lyrics to tell you if the hook is there for me.... but I do love the groove you got going and it transistions smoothly.. I'd like to hear this with less fx on the vox and maybe a clearer recording

Thunder
This is a fantastic track. The thundering drums and dirty guitars make you want get up and jump around. I dig the effect on the vocals. It makes the song more "in your face" and punk. Great job.

hello but the chorus didn't quite take off
this song has a lot of energy and is cool, but the chorus didn't quite take off

I'm a reject
Good rythm guitar...Weak lead parts... I'm still waiting for the vocals break out of the chorus/reverb. Good ideas in this song..

It's ok
I can't really hear the bass all to well in the song, liking the guitars though.. the hook isn't to bad either.. gives the song abit more of a interest and structure... the whole song is similiar to abit like joy division or at least morrisey.

good song
I like anything with a solid beat like the beginning. the only thing is the drums sound a little bit like they're electronic so they kind of get a little boring, you might try turning the toms up or down like every other hit to give it a little better feel. i like the song though it kind of reminds me of an older rock feel but modernized some. the part where the background vocals say I'm a reject, reminds of the Ramones

good n' steady
this is a steady train going down the tracks and sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel. Although probably on purpose? Tame version of iggy and the stooges with out the drugs or balls.

Chuga Chuga
Beat driven, gritty guitars in the opening are engaging. Vocal is drenched with reverb and any vocal qualities hiding underneath are lost in the wash. The bass sounds very weak in the mix. I can hear that the playing is good, but it doesnt stand out at all. I like the song structure, very punk retro. There was a band a long time ago called Crazy Elephant... doing Gimme Gimme Some Lovin, this reminds me of those good times.

cool
I like the drums, and the guitars are really cool sounding. The reverb-drenched vocals are great, too. Everything is good there just seems to be a fire that's missing. Otherwise, good job on everything.

distant drums
Production isn't always important and I truly believe that you can record a perfectly listenable song with the most basic of technology, especially with this kind of music. This song however isn't helped by the fact it sounds like it was recorded down a well. Parts of the recording have the live feel of a Pixies recording which is good, but it is diffficult to concentrate on the song as it sounds so distant and blurred. I think the guitar sound needs a bit more depth as the distortion currently makes it sound flat. Sometimes I find by reducing the level of distortion and increasing definition and crispness in the sound, it ends sounding better and dirtier than if I just pile on the distortion. The playing of the trhythm guitar is good in that it fits the feel of the song but it sounded a little tentative to me and not free flowing and aggressive as it could have been. The lead playing was good if a little low in the mix. The hook is good musically but I don't like the lyrics much as I think they are a little bit cliched for this genre. I did like the hey hey heys though. The singer has a good voice for this music but also suffered from the recording. Couldn't really here the bass very well even though I was listening through good headphones. Maybe a more distinct bass sound would change this.

Sound of the stooges
Very sparse intro here, with a simple drum beat and simple guitar. But it works for this song. Then the vocals come in, and for the most part I like them quite a lot. Good attitude and the style reminds me of the stooges. Especially the scream in this song. This song could actually probably benefit from more wails. The effects on the vocals I like too, but maybe they could be toned down just a little bit.

As for what you asked comments on - the guitar is decent, some parts the tone sounds good and others its sounds weird. The parts being played aren't very demanding, but they are performed well. The couple parts where there were some lead guitar sound good. The bass dosen't really stand out for me at all, for most part it just seems to follow the guitar which works for the song. The hook is decent, with the "reject" line. I like the song but feel as though its sort of long. For the pace its going at its a fairly long song. This is some good garage punk though.

Production is hollow
There is either too much reverb on the main mix, or something was weird with the recording. The vocals are difficult to understand because they are too reverb'ed. The drums are a little too repetitive; i don't think they change pattern the entire song, it gets a little boring. The guitars are decent, but also, repetitive like the drums, leaving the entire song a little boring.

old school/new
the drums grab you right away, nice crunchy guitar keeps there. although i can't make out the lyrics i like the tone in the vocals but there is too much fx ,the rythme guitar and lead guitar both have a lovely raw tone that reminds me of old rock ,not too much fx.for my liking i think the bass could cum through more with the drums, i really like the scream ,reminds me of the 60s,cool band

Gabba Gabba Hey!
Love the vibe in this song. OK, sure I hear the Ramones in there, but so what! Interesting production. I like the guitar up front like that, but don't forget the vocal too!

Guitars sound real good. Don't give a fuck rock n roll. The solo could've done with a little more volume perhaps...just small details.

Overall hook(s) are good. Love to hear this live...in fact, I'd love to hear you guys record live in the studio.
- mattfromoz from Venice, California on 13Dec2006

and the drums say
can't hear the bass, guitar mix is great and refreshing , the drums sound great, never wavering off the beat.. good hooks throughout... great guitar work.. love the effect on the vox....sounds like that pumpkins cover of i need you tonight or some such i have.. very ramones and strokes, franz ferdinand

Psychic heavy garage
Great intro with pounding toms and tambourine and then just a distorted guitar before the cool sounding vocalist comes in.
Modern heavy rockish garage tune.
Ramones and The Cramps meets The The.
I like the guitar hook, nice and fuzzy but the good bass line could come through a bit more, I believe. Or skip it entirely for effects :)

Good one :)

Interesting
The feel of the music is what I like about this song. I'm not a fan of the lyrics but thats cool. The vocals at 1:32 sounds like they are turned up a little to much in the mix.
- societywill from Atlanta, Georgia on 8Dec2006

I 've heard this before
I'm pretty sureI've either heard this before

-or -

This sounds so much like other stuff here that it's a little stale.

Way too much effects guitar tone too out front - cant hear the bass worth a darn... panning is terriable

Hook - what's it matter after all the probs..

blech!

Hello Detroit
Iggy Pop with Jesus and Mary Chain style production. This sounds like there's a lot of attitude, but the attitude doesn't really come through on the recording. The distorted vocals sound like they are well placed, but might be a little too thick. One peice of advice for people who like distortion on the vocals, the key is be subtle. Don't overdo the distortion, it makes it sound like you're covering up the fact that you can't sing.

Comments on guitars: minimal guitar stylings, with noisy distortion. The flavor of the noisy guitars is pretty enticing, but it never really pays off. In the end I was pretty bummed that the guitars never had a climactic point. I just felt tension, with no release.

Bass: Was there bass on this recording? I didn't really hear any. Turn up the bass a little, or maybe tweak the tones so it comes through better. I'm just getting guitar and drums and vocals.

Hook: I'm a reject.... nobody likes me... I'm a loser.... That's pretty true. I feel that. But it might be overdone. Maybe get a more empowering message going to make the listener feel more engaged rather than feeling sorry for themselves the whole time. The best songs offer a message of optimism in hard times... I could cite examples, but you probably all hate the song living on a prayer by Bon Jovi.

Okay work
First of all - Very nice structure! The drums is a straight beat, and it is followed by guitars and vocals. The sound is just like the old days - The Beatles, Elvis, Johnny Cash - but it also made me think of Lenny Kravitz.

The production is well made. But the vocals can be too strange in some of the verses - I know it's probably the purpose, but a little less gain, then it would be all right!

I like it!!

Sounds Old
The recording quality and style of music feels like it would be better suited for the past. The backup vocals saying things like "hey hey hey" and "I'm a reject" makes the song lose what little credibility it started out with.
