The Gigography

Scout Hall 28/12/92

The bands first ever gig. Held in the hallowed halls of Scoutdom. Here, the Dun Ringles proudly launched their career by unleashing Vom Your Sproggans on an audience of press-ganged scouts and other reprobates. As Vom only had 11 songs they had to add several cover versions to give the ‘kids value for money’ Lights were supplied by the old scabby lighting rig from under the Scout Hall and operated by Byron and Dorian. Support bands that night were Eavsie and Toby and Enoxia, two Scout Bands. Around  30 people in the audience. Master of Ceremonies was the illustrious CJ Mitchell, Media Tycoon. The gig was bootlegged and later appeared on Leg Your Boots Vol 1

Scout Hall 2/4/93

The second ever gig, once again in the Scout Hall. Now improved to a four piece with the addition of Jon. A huge multi-media affair featuring the lighting rig from An Lantair and a huge ex WW2 parachute as the backdrop. An audience of around fifty folk, again mostly scouts but featuring a large contingent of Grimersta ghillies and serving wenches. This gig was videod and also bootlegged, although only the second half of the gig was preserved as Grassy forgot to turn the tape recorder on.

Scout Gang Show Gig 25/26 Feb 1994

The band were asked to perform at the Scout and Guide Gang Show in the Niccy but only Jason and Wattie could make it. Turns out the band were asked to appear as a ‘novelty humorous entertainment act’ but none the less they agreed to do it. Spent the whole show as a supposedly inept (spookily accurate that, isn’t it?) heavy metal band trying to sneak on to perform. Lots of ‘hilarious’ things such as abseiling on to the stage and pretending to be usherettes. The Gang Show was filmed by Gaelic  Film Students from the Castle College.

Jazz Club Gig June 1994

After their Gang Show performance, the band were asked to play at the Jazz Club in An Lantair in support of Jamnesia. Once again only Jason and Wattie could make it. Played a short 15 minute set then ran away.

The Wedding Dance Gig 8/7/94

An impromptu performance at Wattie and Robin’s sister Heather’s wedding. All four band members in the same place at once! A rare occurrence in itself. Add lots of alcohol and then point the band at the stage during the real bands break and you have a ready made rock extravaganza ahead of its time. Or at least well ahead of the bemused wedding guests. No bass guitar so Wattie just sang, only one guitar so Jon grabbed that even though it only had 5 strings, no guitar for Jason so he decided to play the drums and Robin had keyboards which were set for ‘deathly silence’ Urged on by manager Grassy, the band played three songs and then staggered off stage.

Scout Hall Gig 8/7/94

The official launch of Flang Your Doodle at the hallowed Scout Hall. The band cunningly built the stage half way down the Scout Hall in order to make the place seem more filled. Spent an inordinate amount of time building an impressive back drop of logs, the old parachute  and the Scouts huge judo mat. Around 40 people turned up to watch and the gig was once again videod. Unfortunately, the only camera in the place didn’t work so no photos exist. During the set Grassy presented the band a Double Ollack disc for sales of Vom Your Sproggans.

A Norse Noel 28/12/94 An Lantair

A Xmas extravaganza in An Lantair. A stage set consisting of Viking type props and the band dressed up as Norsemen. A cardboard longship added to the sheer hugeness of the props involved. The plan was to set fire to the longship down at the Braigh on the way back to Watties for a sesh but everyone was too pissed and anyway it was raining. Once more videod and photoed. The Ventures acted as road crew.

The Tarbert Gig 2/6/95 Tarbert Village Hall

As Jason was now living in Tarbert, the band decided to have a forray into uncharted territory. Jason told the others that the Hearachs were desperate for entertainment of any sort and would come in their tens to see the band from the big city. Grassy arranged for a disco to support the evening and a local Harris band, Cane Toad, asked to play too. A lot of folk from Stornoway came down to see the gig including the Bus From Hell. A double decker of Clachan regulars which Grassy had told to come. Once more booked the An Lantair lights and John Fonns PA system. As  the band had booked the venue, Tannas, a Gaelic folk group were forced to play down in Leverburgh, ha ha ha. A lot of people paid to get in but as the Tarbert Hall had a ‘No Drink’ policy, most folk stayed outside drinking. However, they had paid to get in so the band actually made a lot of money that night. By far the bands most drunken performance and probably one of the most enjoyable.

Dances With Lobsters Gig 4/4/96

To launch Dances with Lobsters the band returned to An Lantair and once again produced a lavish set consisting of an old net Jason found and an orange fishermans waterproof. All four band members wore bobban hats to add to the air of nauticalness. A sold out gig, believe it or not, complete with a tea break half way through.
