"Cadaverous Thespian"
Morrison
writes......
Not
so much (not at all
- Ed) a Guireans
spinoff as a new lease
of life for
Mean Time splinter
group Totenkopffriml,
HTB was named hurriedly
by Bomber as he sat
listening to the B52's
while talking to Noal
(eh? Noel, surely -
Ed) Eadie on the
phone. Sick of being
told by Noal (Noel)
and Calum Martin to
"stop playing that punk
sh*te", Bomber jumped at
the chance to revive the
glory of Totenkopf and
play some good songs.
Huggan was unavailable
to resume vocal duties
due to having a job that
paid him money, so the
deathly pale guitarist
took over. Only not very
well. The band played
three times in the
Galaxy Suite - twice
on one night - and
during their first
performance the power
supply to Rod's effects
pedals cut out at
the exact moment the
speaker in the bass amp
blew, resulting in the
band sounding like
someone farting in a
bag, but with drums.
Unfortunately HTB's
preference for Pixies
and REM covers (when
both bands were deeply
unfashionable) led to
cries from the audience
of "Stop playing that
punk sh*te".
This
was too much for Bomber,
who left to concentrate
on his hobby of telling
other people what they
should do with their
money. Without this
driving force (or to be
more precise, without
someone's house to
practise in) the band
soon drifted apart,
leaving only a legacy of
... something or other.
Roddy
H has now put more Hot
Tamala Baby stuff (well,
the same, really) on the
Meantime website.
(Which sadly has now been deleted by msn groups with the loss of all content...)
