Suil Air Ais - Ageing AGOFR Dinosaur Wattie Recalls the 1982 Winter Feis

Guireans confirmed as appearing at Winter Feis 1982!!!!

I spent a fun filled 50 minutes last night listening to the recording of the Winter Feis. Haven't laughed so much since reading the Guireans book. I can indeed confirm the appearance of the Guireans at the gig (but as to who was in the line up????????)

Cycelfoot opened with an excellent set including Big Maggy, Child In Time and 22 Pints of Beer (instrumental version). They were followed by Zing Pop and then The Guireans. Unfortunately, only around five minutes of the Guireans performance made it to tape. These five minutes include what must be various warming up exercises, featuring snatches of Jazz Mucus, 22 Flights.... and a Bowie riff (Jean Genie??) Or maybe its a T rex one. Anyway, the band eventually get into a tune, which I dont recognise, but the tape comes to an end after about a minute or so of the song. There's electric guitar, bass , Zing Pops Casio VL-Tone and drums. You can hear CJ shouting 'We want the Guireans. Now!!'

Listening to the tape brought back huge amounts of long forgotten memories. I didn't actually perform that day, as I was sick, but I sneaked out and made an entrance after Zing Pops third song. I thought they'd nearly finished, so rather stupidly elected to sit in the audience for the duration of their rather lengthy set. You can hear me walking in on the tape, shortly followed by either Iain or Ken Deadollac!!

Highlights of the gig include CJ's hysterical laughter during Child In Time and the old Scout Hall piano, which was soooooo out of tune, but featured on nearly every song.

Copies of this rare historical event are been copied even as I type. (or at least they will be when I get home tonight)
